Denver Days Plans More Rides for 2010

Working with Cole Amusements of Virginia, the Denver Days 2010 will offer more excitement for those who love the rides!  In past years, we have had about 10 rides for you to choose from, but the Cole folks are bringing 17 rides, so if you are one of those who love going to county fairs for the rides, you are going to LOVE this edition of Denver Days!

Bud Tschudin, president of Denver Days 2010 has been in contact with Cole Amusements and we will have a good selection of rides for our young kids, the older thrill-seekers and those of us adults who think they are still kids!  Wednesday and Thursday, Denver Days opens at 5:00 PM and you can come ride all evening for one low price!

Bud was quoted “ For those who come for excitement, Cole is bringing the following rides:  CATCHNAIR, CLIFF HANGER, EXPO WHEEL, TUNNEL FORCE, HURRICANE, RAINBOW, SCAT, SUPER SHOT,  and the ZIPPER.”

Bud continued “Since Denver Days has been carefully constructed for all ages, we have worked with Cole to be sure we have equal ride choices for young people as well as older and for the younger ones, we have booked the following rides:  THE CAROUSEL, DIZZY DRAGON, DRAGON WAGON, KIDSTOWN, QUAD RUNNER HAMPTON, WAVE THUNDER, WILLIE THE WHALE, and

“We think Denver Days 2010 is going to be the most exciting Denver Days since the festival started in 2003.  This is a great event to bring the community together for four days of rides, food and fun.  You get to see your neighbors and visit, enjoy some great food, enjoy the entertainment and help our Rotary Club build your park.  Come visit Denver Days.”

Denver Days Expands with “Denver’s Got Talent” Competition

Piers Morgan and that group has nothing on Denver, North Carolina as Denver Days launches its own quest to locate and promote the best talent in the area.  Melissa Lasarsky recently announced the new “Denver’s Got Talent” competition, to be held in conjunction with the four-day Denver Days festival, September 29th – October 2nd. Preliminary judging will be completed prior to the festival, narrowing the competition to the top 10 performers who will be on the stage Friday evening and the top four competing Saturday evening, just before Chairmen of the Board takes the stage.

The talent is your choice, and the judges are ready for what you do best.

The rules are simple.  To enter, make a maximum of 60 seconds video and get it to Melissa, along with your name, contact information and 5 x 7 electronic photo.  You can post your video to You Tube and email the link to Melissa at, or you make  a DVD recording and drop off to Lincoln Charter School on Galway Lane, along with the photo and contact information.

Submissions are accepted From Tuesday the 7th through Tuesday the 28th.

If you are selected as a top 10 act, you will be scheduled to perform on the Sally’s Y stage, located just to the left of the main stage.  Microphone and sound for the mic will be provided; any other sound or other equipment is your responsibility.  Attendance of the top 10 acts is required on Friday, October 1st.

The voting?  Will be by donations both Friday and Saturday night.  Audience members will vote for their top choice with a $1.00 donation per vote.  There will be a container for each contestant and the top four Friday move to Saturday night, then the winner Saturday night will be announced on the main stage just before General Johnson and The Chairmen of The Board.

Talk about being in the spotlight!  This could jump start your career!

What does the winner receive?  How about $250 in CASH and an appearance on the Charlotte Today show?

So Denver……………have you got talent? Send in your entry and show us!

Denver Days 2010 Fall Festival in Denver NC is right around the Corner   Leave a comment

Denver Days 2010 right around the corner, and I think this year’s event is going to be great!  The dates are Wednesday September 29 – Saturday October 2, in the same location but with a lot of changes.  This is the 8th annual Denver Days festival and our community owes a debt of gratitude to the handful of people who had the vision “back in the day” to have an annual event and bring our community together.

Yes, there will be rides and food, local talent and some great music.  We will have plenty of food and the beer garden will be open.  Your corn dog will be awaiting you and for dessert, choose between ice cream, cotton candy or of course my favorite, the funnel cake!  BUT, I think one of the best parts of Denver Days is that with our busy lives not giving us the chance to stop and see our neighbors, Denver Days does bring people together to visit.

This is the first year Denver Days is being managed by the Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club, and I can tell you first-hand, it is a job!  Bud Tschudin is our leader and there are a good many dedicated people following his leadership.  A huge effort is required to make this festival a success, and all 55 members of the Rotary Club are behind the festival.

From the beginning, the goal of Denver Days was to raise funds to purchase land for a public park and use that land as a permanent home for the festival as well.  Over the years, Denver Days became successful and funds were raised but during that time, land with good highway visibility was increasing in value and increasing faster than we could raise the funds.

Through an agreement with the East Lincoln Rescue Squad, Lincoln County and the Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club, all net proceeds from Denver Days will go toward creation of the “East Lincoln Rescue Park,” to be located on 32 acres on Galway Lane.  Once the park is created, it will become the permanent home for Denver Days, and we are planning and praying for no more than 2 years before that is a reality.

The first two days of Denver Days are devoted to rides and the midway only, and you can ride all evening for one low price.  Parking is only $5.00 and that’s part of the money for our park.  Cole Amusements of Virginia has stepped up to the plate for 2010 and increased the number of rides from 11 to 17, ranging from the milder ones to the scary ones I don’t need to be on!

Thursday from 1 to 3, Denver Days is reserved for the “Special Needs Kids” to have their day for the rides.  Both Nicole and I love kids and we are very proud for The Hecht Team to be the sponsors of this part of Denver Days.

Friday morning, the food vendors, businesses and craft vendors move in and Denver Days is transformed through the day into the two-day festival with something for everyone.  Your local businesses will be there to meet you, you can do some early Christmas shopping, eat some great barbecue by Lakeshore BBQ or stop by when Webbs Chapel has their annual fish fry on Saturday night.  Those are not the only food choices, so come and make your choice from lots of selections.

New this year is the “Denver’s Got Talent” competition, so let’s have your You Tube videos. Details for this competition are available from Melissa Lasarsky at  The top 10 are on stage Friday night, then the top 4 Saturday.  No, we don’t have Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, but we stole the idea and changed it some.  This should be fun.

Friday and Saturday nights we will have concerts.  If you have listened to The Embers, you have heard Craig Woolard; he was their lead singer for many years then started his own band.  Craig played in the rain last year and we enjoyed him so much, we wanted to have him back again.  Saturday night, the house will be packed to hear the kings of beach music, General Johnson and The Chairmen of the Board.

Enough reasons to come out this year?  You will have a great time, ride some rides, eat some great food and support our local businesses, get a funnel cake (one of my favorite food groups), hear some great music and on top of that you will be helping to build a park for our area.

Questions?  More information you need?  Just email Nicole or me and we can answer or put you in touch with the person you need.

See you at Denver Days 2010!     Bob Hecht
